On Friday the #ConTechTrio, James Benham (@JamesMBenham), Josh Bone (@BIMtothebone), and Rob McKinney (@conappguru), aired episode 1.12 of their construction technology podcast. Special guest Stacy Scopano (@sscopano), Sr. Industry Strategy Manager of Construction for @autodesk, joined the Trio to discuss construction technology news and trends. @sscopano brought his insight on the future of BIM, workflows, and the initiatives of Autodesk’s BIM 360 Docs platform.
Construction tech news this week was kicked off with upcoming AEC Hackathons. These hackathons bring together computer programmers with industry process experts in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction to identify issues and create solutions for those issues in a 48 hour time period. In addition, on April 20th-22nd @builtworlds is hosting the CEO Tech Forum in Chicago where both @JamesMBenham and special guest @sscopano from this episode of the podcast will be speaking!
After many weeks of anticipation Bluebeam Revu is finally available on MAC platforms! Drones also continued to make the news this week as Facebook will soon allow live streams of drone and GoPro footage. Wearables made headlines as @ITBusinessEdge sighted five business operations that have been transformed by wearable tech including productivity, customer service, timesheets, job site safety, and communication. Rollout AEC has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the PaperLight Interactive Projection system in which a projector and whiteboard are combined to work like a touchscreen to allow users to view plans, sketch plans, write notes, and more with their fingertips, eliminating the need for paper.
The Trio also discussed how the robotization of BIM is projected to continue to improve the accuracy of BIM. This past week, the 2016 SPAR 3D Expo & Conference unveiled SKUR (@SKUR_Inc) and its ability to provide rapid insight into the variance between what was designed and what was built. @LeicaGeosystems is joining the transition to the cloud as on April 12th Leica Geosystems began a “limited field trial” of Leica Cyclone Cloud. @CaterpillarInc was mentioned in podcast episode 1.7 for their transition into technology with the introduction of their mobile phones. This week Caterpillar’s partnership with Redbird made headlines as Caterpillar technologies integrate with the French drone analytics startup.
