Episode 1.7 of the #ConTechTrio podcast aired live this past Friday where @JamesMBenham, Rob Mckinney @ConAppGuru, and Josh Bone @Bim2TheBone were joined by the Director of BIM-VDC for WG Yates, Benjamin Crosby. Topics of conversation throughout this episode included the latest news in construction technology and an interview with Benjamin Crosby where he shared his experience with 4D BIM and how WG Yates is using it to keep projects on schedule and on budget.
This week’s construction tech news included big names like Sweets, Autodesk, Revizto, Botlink, 3D Robotics, Viewpoint, BIM Track and many others attending the Annual AGC Convention last week in San Antonio, TX.
Sweets recently announced an app for Autodesk® Revit® that allows the entire design team (architects, engineers, contractors and designers) to easily search, select and annotate manufacturer building product data directly into their projects.
Botlink is working to alleviate the connected data problem for drones – believe that it shouldn’t be up to the drone manufacturers to also optimize the data. Click here to read more.
The ConTechTrio also noted that Revizto 4.0, featured in Podcast Episode 1.4, is also coming very soon with advanced markup tools, the ability to work with PDFs in vector, and even auto-sync from Revit. BIM Track is also expected to come out of Beta into production soon.
More construction tech updates were covered including announcements from the AGC Annual Convention, Procore, Viewpoint, 3D Robotics now partnering with Sony and the latest in other installation robotics. And AGC announced the lowest level of construction unemployment since 2010. Listen to the podcast for full details!
Benjamin Crosby of WG Yates joined the broadcast after the industry tech updates to discuss his experience and his company’s optimizing of BIM since adopting it five years ago. He discussed how they justify and mitigate costs, avoid scope creep and collaborate with clients/owners to share information without oversharing. Ben discussed the software and strategies WG Yates uses currently, like Synchro for scheduling, and how they employ all members of a project to implement and optimize 4D BIM. (Before or after you listen to the podcast, here’s a great a primer on 4D recommended ConTechTrio BIM Consultant Josh Bone.)
