Last Friday, the #ConTechTrio aired episode 1.13 of the podcast in which James Benham (@jamesmbenham), Rob McKinney (@conappguru) and Josh Bone (@bim2thebone) discussed the latest construction tech news. News from last week included new software and hardware releases, the latest developments with drones and 3D printing, and much more! Interviews from the @Builtworlds CEO Tech Forum were also aired in which @jamesmbenham spoke with several CEO’s in the construction technology space regarding the benefits of their products and their thoughts on the evolution of construction tech.
The news kicked off with highlights from the @Builtworlds CEO Tech Forum that was held in Chicago on April 20-22. @jamesmbenham applauded the event for its choice of venue and the variety of speakers who attended the event, including past #ConTechTrio podcast guest @sscopano from @Autodesk. Headliners of the week included Microsoft’s release of the CaptionBot which will allow construction professionals to automatically caption photos which will make the process of capturing unstructured data in construction easier. In regards to 3D printing, James discussed his experience with the latest trend in 3D printing created by Branch Technology (@BranchTechno). The viral video of the battle between front end loaders in China also made the news as the front end loaders literally fight each other to gain the rights to a job!
A new whiteboard app also made headlines as @KaptivoHQ has released a piece of hardware that transforms any Whiteboard into a Smartboard. @Procoretech launched a new index of industry vital signs which will provide daily measures of national and regional factors that are driving the economy of the construction industry. Drone advancement continued to make the news as @NASA tested a drone that is equipped with a traffic control system. In the world of Robotics, a video has been released that shows metal blocks that can automatically weld themselves together. 3D printing also continued to make newsworthy developments as the world’s first functioning 3D printed construction excavator has been created.
In other 3D printing news, @Siemens has created 3D robots that can collaborate with each other to build large structures. JE Dunn has partnered with Autodesk to transform big data and analytics through their ability to capture unstructured data with BIM. Nanotechnology is also impacting construction as a recent video shows nanotechnology glass coating solutions, a product that you spray on items to keep their surfaces completely dry. Revit 2017 was also officially released this week! An article in @architectmag shows the 5 standout features in @AutodeskRevit 2017.
At the @Builtworlds CEO Tech Forum that was held in Chicago on April 20-22 @jamesmbenham interviewed 6 CEO’s who were in attendance in regards to their company, how their technology is being implemented, why their technology is beneficial, and their perspectives on technology in construction.
